Trapani, what a beautiful surprise!

First, I have to tell you that I came to Sicily about 3 years ago and my experience was not one of the greatest ones. My friend and I spotted Palermo on the map and decided to go there out of the blue. We found Palermo to be quite plain and dirty. After that, we decided to get out of Sicily and go to Florence, Modena, Verona, etc, which was beautiful. Needless to say, the memory I had of Sicily was mediocre.

A year ago, my sister went on a 6 month Europe trip herself. She decided to go to Sicily as her first stop in Italy. I was afraid she would have the same kind of experience as we did, but to my surprise, the pictures she sent us were beautiful!

Now, you have to know that my friend and I didn’t research Sicily and we chose Palermo because it was the biggest dot on the Sicilian map. Some people say Palermo is nice, I guess it’s a matter of opinion.

So this time around, after talking with my sister about her trip and after researching Sicily, we decided to give it another shot.

Wow! Am I ever glad we did!!!

Our first stop in Sicily was Trapani.

Trapani is a small and quaint city. We were pleasantly surprised! It was frankly way nicer than I imagined. In 30 seconds, we could walk to the beach. You could then see ruins to your far right and a beautiful city scape to your left.

Peaceful is how I would describe it. After a short visit to a touristy city like Rome, we were happy to find Trapani as calm and tourist free (almost) as it was.  I must admit that the weather also helped! After 2 weeks of cold and rain in Portugal (nice but still cold!), we arrived to 18 degrees celsius and sunshine! We had this kind of weather the whole time we were there!

Yes, I am no longer a freakishly white person! Yay for me!

Anyways, enough talking, it’s picture time!

This is the port side of Trapani:

See how blue/turquoise the water is?

I love how some houses are colourful!

Beautiful seaside ruins

So please, next time you go to Sicily, have a look at my blog and choose wisely! Sicily is beautiful, you just have to go in the right places 🙂

Enjoy!

Alex
