You know how important it is for me to eat fresh and healthy products. I am also really keen on sustainability.

The seafood industry plays a big role in the way our ecosystem keeps itself sustainable and that’s why when you purchase seafood, you should always make sure it is sustainable.

Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ contacted me to write a review on their products.

I get quite a few offers to review products and I always check out the products and the companies before accepting. I often refuse because the company or products do not reflect my values or what I believe in.

So I went on the Bumble Bee SuperFresh™’s website to do a little research before saying yes and I was extremely surprised by the quality of their products.

They sent me some samples to test out so I could really give you my honest opinion about them.

Wow! How fresh tasting and delicious!

The Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ seafood is cleaned, cut and fresh frozen within hours which makes for an extremely fresh tasting and high quality final product. They use only premium quality salmon, tilapia and shrimp. They pay premium prices for the highest quality seafood to ensure you get the best of the best.

(Next one taken in my kitchen!)

What I really love are the all-natural ingredients used to season the seafood. Pesto, extra virgin olive oil, lemon, pepper; all amazing flavours that go extremely well with salmon, tilapia and shrimp. The recipes are created by chefs, to make sure the flavours are well balanced and complement the fish.

None of their seafood is ‘coated’ or breaded, which makes for a more appealing alternative!

They use natural ingredients like you and I would use to season fish: extra virgin olive oil, parmesan cheese, creamy butter, fresh garlic, lemon juice from lemons (no concentrate!!), sea salt, pure cane sugar and natural herbs and spices.

Nowadays, it’s really hard to come across a fresh tasting product with no preservatives. Remember when I told you guys that I checked every single label of every product before it goes in my cart at the grocery store? Well I checked the ingredients in the Bumble Bee SuperFresh™’s products and they do not use any preservatives! Not even chemicals or Sodium Tripolyphosphates on the shrimp! All clean!

I also read that they have a ‘clean’ label, which means that all ingredients are real and natural (no chemicals or preservatives or mystery ingredients you need a science degree to pronounce! ;))

Ok, enough talk about them, let’s talk taste buds!

FLAVOUR AND TEXTURE

I have tried all of their products and whether it’s a premium cut of salmon or a beautiful tilapia fillet, the fish is always tender, flakes to the touch of the fork and a party of flavours for your tastebuds!

I also really liked the fact that their shrimp were really well cleaned. They leave the tails on which makes for a nice presentation!

PREPARATION

But if it’s frozen, do I have to wait for it to thaw before cooking or baking it you ask? No, no, no! The recipes the chefs came up with are all designed to be baked or sautéed right out of the freezer—no thawing! Per example, the fish fillets go right into their parchment jackets (included) and into the oven.  Shrimp go from freezer to sauté pan.  Salmon bakes to perfection in 20 minutes; Tilapia in 17.  Shrimp sautées to a delicious doneness in about 6 minutes. Great for any busy family who wants to eat well on the go! No fuss and practically no clean up! Love it!

When I made the salmon for dinner, it took less than 30 minutes for me to make the whole meal! Sides and veggies included! I also found that there was no fishy smell in the house after, which is always a plus!

NUTRITION

Let’s face it – everyone should eat more fish. It’s lean, it’s a great source of protein (half of your daily value in theBumble Bee SuperFresh™’s Salmon with Garden Pesto!) and it tastes delicious! The latest nutritional guidelines recommend two servings a week, but very few of us actually eat that much seafood!

Gluten intolerant? No problem, the Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ products are all Gluten-Free!

Before I forget to mention it, I was amazed to see how much Vitamin D was in the Tilapia with lemon, pepper and herbs had! Three times the daily intake needed! Do you get enough Vitamin D in your diet?

SUSTAINABILITY

All of the Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ seafood is sourced from fisheries that meet the highest standards, with certification from strict third party monitors such as Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP), Global GAP (GAP), and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).

FINAL THOUGHTS: Next time you want to make seafood for supper, think of the Bumble Bee SuperFresh™ products! They’re delicious, sustainable and very easy to prepare!

Enjoy!

Alex

I absolutely love this line. Due to my work schedule I find myself eating the same thing for dinner (sometimes cereal). This line has been an awesome addition. It taste great which in my opinion is hard to find in a frozen entree. They are restaurant quality dishes and very quick and easy to prepare.

I loved the taste of the tilapia but after 17 minutes in the oven it was still partially frozen. I put it back in for another 10 min. and it came out rubbery. Any suggestions?

    • Hi there! I would probably say that it is because it was overcooked but since every microwave has a different heating intensity level, I would suggest you call the lovely people at Bumble Bee so they can help you cook your fish to perfection 🙂 855-805-4658 (toll-free) I hope you get better results next time 🙂
