I remember eating french toasts once when I was a kid.

They were soggy and eggy, which are two of my less favorite things in food so you can only imagine that I didn’t eat much french toasts after that!

As a major foodie, I owe it to myself to try things again, to make sure I really dislike them.

So last time I went to Barcelona (with my mother, sister and brother), we had a small kitchen in our apartment and I took full advantage of it!

One night, we had a variety of cheeses and charcuterie for supper, along with a nice and fresh baguette. We didn’t end up finishing the baguette, so the next morning, what was left of the baguette was already stale.

While we were having coffee and discussing what I could make for breakfast, I thought to myself: Why don’t I try making french toasts!

If I use the stale baguette, the bread won’t get soggy and the egg mixture won’t soak in the whole bread!

What the hell, let’s give it a shot!

Needless to say, I am now a huge french toast fan (BUT only when they are made with baguette!).

The bread softened just enough so it was pleasant to eat and really not soggy at all! I only used 1 egg since we had half of a baguette left and the taste was delicious!

If you’re not to much of a french toast fan because of the same reasons, please give these a try! They are so easy to make and really delicious!

Course: Breakfast    Yield: 4 servings    Prep Time: 10 mins    Cook Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 extra large eggs
  • 1/4 to 1/2 Cup of milk, maybe a bit more
  • 1 Teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1 baguette
  • 3-4 Tablespoon of butter
  • yogurt, fresh fruits and maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Start by slicing the baguette.
  2. In a bowl, break your eggs and whisk them well. Whisk in the milk and the cinnamon and set aside.
  3. In a large pan, melt 1 tbsp of butter over a medium/high heat. When the butter is bubbling, Dip 4 pieces of bread, one at a time, in the egg mixture, making sure you coat each side very well. place them in the hot pan and let them cook for about 1 minute. Flip and lightly press on the pieces. Let them cook for about a minute and a half.
  4. Take the pieces out of the pan and place them in the oven on "keep warm".
  5. Repeat these steps until you run out of bread.
  6. You can sprinkle a bit more cinnamon on the french toasts before serving them.
  7. Serve them with maple syrup, fresh fruits and yogurt.
  8. Enjoy!
