My boyfriend and I love to go on week-end getaways. This is the latest one we went on and we were both surprised because we had WAY more fun than we expected!

DAY 1:

We were staying in the town of Picton, so on the first day we walked around town and checked out the cute stores (it was such a beautiful day out!). We also walked by this little farmer’s market where they were selling fresh local products (love that!).

Our friend Jonathan suggested that we go have supper at a winery called Waupoos, which is about 15 minutes from where we were staying. The ride there was so nice, fields and trees along the road with a beautiful blue sky = perfect day.

The house in front of the winery was just too beautiful for me not to take a picture. 🙂

We had a relaxing supper at the winery’s restaurant overlooking the lake Ontario (picture below). It was quite romantic :).

DAY 2:

The next day, we got up early and went out for breakfast at a cute coffee shop in Picton. After, we went to see the lake on top of the mountain. It’s amazing since the lake only contains fresh water, even though it’s on top on a mountain.

Around noon, we decided to go see the famous Sandbanks. It was very nice but very crowded. We then went to the town of Wellington, where all the wineries are. We had lunch at the Devonshire, a restaurant on the side of the water.

The food was very good!! I had a pulled pork sandwich with an apple coleslaw (yum!!).

We went to several wineries, the first one was Keint-He. Very good wine but a bit too expensive…

The next one we went to was Sandbanks Estate winery. They make wine that’s a bit more mainstream but the staff was so nice!!! They had tables and chairs everywhere outside for people to sit and have a bottle of wine, read a book, etc. I loved the atmosphere!!

We then went to Rosehall Winery. They have a good wine selection and a great staff.

The last one we went to was Sugarbush. The owner, Sally, was amazing. She explained the whole process of making wine to us and made us taste almost every wine they make. Her Chardonnay is very good. She also recommended that we go eat at Currah’s, a great restaurant for New Orleans style food in Picton. Karl (my boyfriend) had Jambalaya, which was delicious and I had pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon on a bed of creamy and spicy corn. Again, delicious!

DAY 3:

On the last day, we shopped some more and went to this cool hot dog restaurant called Bhudda Dog. What’s special about this restaurant is that they only use local ingredients. The design of the restaurant was very nice. We talked to the owner and he told us the history of the restaurant and showed us pictures of everyone who helped them make this restaurant a success. You could see that he was very proud to use local ingredients and help the local farmers at the same time.

The hot dogs were not your typical hot dogs as you can see! The ones we took had homemade red pepper jelly and aioli as condiments.

With our bellies full and our truck packed with wine bottles, we went back home very satisfied!!! I would recommend Prince Edward County to anyone who loves wine and good food! 🙂
